The Most Common Myths About

Sports Injuries

You've Been Told By Doctors, Friends and Social Media That Keep You In Pain And Taking Pills

If you’ve had a sports injury such as a knee injury or a rotator cuff tear, you’ve probably been given the same advice and solutions from your doctor, friends, and even social media.

The problem is that what you’re normally told isn’t usually true, or is not the right advice for YOUR injury!

This is a problem because it can lead to you suffering for longer unable to get back in the gym, on the court, or back to rehearsals.

Here are some of the most common and damaging sports injury myths that you might be keeping you in pain, and unable to recover.

MYTH #1 - YOU'RE NEVER THE SAME AFTER A SPORTS INJURY
If you have a sports injury, you're probably terrified that it's going to wreck your career, stop you from working out hard, and mean you can't perform at your best on the court. But this myth of never being the same after a serious injury isn't true. And as the leading sports injury expert here in New York City, I am here to tell you that you can make a full recovery, beat your previous records and go to the next level on stage with the right treatment. Here at MVMT Physical Therapy, my expert team and I have spent years developing our techniques and skills to give you natural, long-lasting pain relief and help you reach the next level of performance once you've made a full recovery.
MYTH #2 - SPORTS INJURIES COME WITH THE TERRITORY
If you're an avid CrossFitter like myself, then I am positive that you will have been told by doctors that you should expect sports injuries because it comes with the territory of what you're doing. And because of this inaccurate myth, they'll tell you to slow down and stop doing what you love. Now I'm not going to deny that putting your body under high loads in the gym or doing hours of sports on a weekend is going to challenge your body. But this isn't necessarily why you get injured. For example, if you're doing front squats but have a lack of range of motion in your ankle and it's not able to flex correctly then that will limit the depth of the squat and is likely to cause knee pain, hip pain, and lower back pain! It was the squats that were the problem. It was the limited range of motion in your ankles. So don't believe that injuries are inevitable, and when you do experience pain, tightness, or discomfort, speak to an expert like myself who can identify the true cause - it probably isn't your sport, your workouts, or your job.
MYTH #3 - YOU SHOULDN'T LIFT HEAVY OVERHEAD
This is another common myth I not only hear from patients but also parroted by other practitioners! If you like to go HARD in the gym and picked up little annoying aches and pains, then you have probably been told that you need to ease up and lift lighter weights, especially if it is over your head. Just as I'm sure this advice frustrates you, it frustrates us because it's simply not true! With proper technique and working with all of your body, as well as you being in tune with your body and listening to it, you can lift and go as hard as you like. So don't give up on hitting a new record in the gym because of this common myth.
